Make no mistake about it. Dog grooming is not an easy job especially if your dog has a lot of hairs! However, the good news is that you do not have to go to dog grooming school just to learn how to take care of your long haired pet. Although taking care of a long haired dog takes a lot of time and effort, if you are very conscientious when it comes to dog grooming, your long haired dog will definitely look like a winner. To help to take care of your long haired dog, here are some tips for you.

Groom Your Dog Regularly

Dog grooming is not something that you can always put off for a few days or so. Do not allow dirt and mats develop in the coat of your dog. Remember that it will be harder for you to clean you dog once mats develop on its coat. Just think about how difficult it will be to run a brush on your dog’s coat when the strands of hair are already sticking to each other. Unless you want to give your dog that dread head look that made the reggae king Bob Marley famous, do not allow dirt and mats to accumulate on your dog’s coat. Be mindful of dog grooming schedules.

Aside from cleaning your dog’s coat, you will need to trim it regularly. Long haired dogs are famous for growing their hair at an amazing pace and before you know it; your dog will look like some hairball monster. To keep your dog’s coat in check, trim it regularly. Get a good pair of scissors, brush and mat breaker tool. The scissors will definitely become handy when you encounter a long of tangled hairs that are just impossible to break. Just make sure that you cut the hair nicely. You don’t really want your dog’s to look uneven.

Give Your Dog A Bath Regularly

When it comes to dog grooming, giving your dog a bath regularly should always be on top of your things to do list. Give your dog a bath at least twice a week during the summer and at least once a week during colder seasons. Brush your dog’s coat thoroughly. Use mild dog shampoo and water to remove dirt from your dog’s coat. If you can afford it, you might want to try to bring your dog to a dog grooming shop once in a while. Giving your dog some professional dog grooming will definitely make a lot of difference on the way your dog looks.
