When considering a new pet, it is important to decide whether a cat or a dog is going to fit better into the family. It might be that you have a preference already but need to know if it is going to be the best choice. It is often useful to get some very basic pet health pointers about which animal is going to be the best for you and your family. Remember, this is a long-term commitment and you should make the right choice.
Cats – Furry Feline Fun
The great thing about cats is that they are relatively easy to look after. Cats are strong willed and like to get out and about on a regular basis, so be sure to let them have their own space. Its not that they need a lot of exercise, its more a case of the foraging instinct kicking in and they want to go out. In terms of pet health, cats generally suffer with hairball problems the most. Avoid milk as many are lactose intolerant and cats find it hard to digest. To keep the pet healthy, feed dry food watered down so it is easier to swallow and this will relieve potential constipation, which cats can also suffer with.
Cats are great pets and easy to look after. However, they are not the warmest of animals when it comes to companionship and affection, which is why many people opt for a dog instead. Something else worth considering is the risk of allergies, as many people suffer with cat fur allergies and don’t even realise it until they get a cat permanently in their home.
Woof Woof
Dogs have always had a warm place in people’s hearts and there are more dogs than ever before in Britain. One thing they’re not is low maintenance though, so be prepared to devote many hours to your dog if you decide to get one. If you have children then dogs can be very protective and they will look out for them. Give your dog a walk on a daily basis and make sure you keep on top of your pet health in general. In terms of food, dry dog food is recommended. Ensure the dog has regular access to plenty of water.
As well as the basics mentioned above, you need to factor grooming in to your pet health routine. If buying a dog, do not feed it chocolate since this is very dangerous.
